Operating Room Scheduling
Setting the weekly hospital surgical schedule โ which day, room, surgeon, and team for each case.
OR SchedulingSurgical Case Sequencing
Operating Room Scheduling is the problem of deciding which surgical cases run on which day, in which OR, with which surgeon and nursing team, over a weekly or monthly horizon. A three-tier framing is standard: strategic (capacity allocation โ e.g. 'how many hours per week to each specialty'), tactical (master surgical schedule), operational (each case's day, time, sequence). Duration uncertainty, emergency arrivals, sterilization capacity, and implant supply are typical constraints. Classical MIP formulations are exact up to 50โ100 cases; larger problems use stochastic MIP or heuristic + simulation.
รrnek
A private hospital with 80 weekly cases, 4 ORs, 8 surgeons, 20% emergency reserve. Find the schedule that maximizes room utilization while honoring duration uncertainty, sterilization capacity, and surgeon availability.
